Preferences
I find that some of the preferences in the plucker viewer are difficult to figure out. So hopefully this is the right place to start documenting them. I still need to figure out how it should be formatted and I don't know all the answers for what each of the preferences does. Also two items "Font and Layout" and "Set keyboard/graffiti" aren't officially in the preferences area but are in the menu, but I am including them here because I think this is the proper place to document them.
General
- Command toolbar button
- What does this do?
- Screen depth
- This controls the level of color you want the plucker viewer to display.
- 1: Black and white.
- 2: Color ??
- 4: Color ??
- Toolbar
- This controls where on the screen the toolbar will display. (The options Top, Bottom, and None are self explanatory.)
- Scrollbar
- This controls where on the screen the scrollbar will be displayed. (The options Right, Left, and None are self explanatory.)
Browsing
- Enable strike-through
- What does this do?
- Enable underline tags
- What does this do?
- Connect parts with paging
- The plucker document format has a size limit of 32K per page, as a result, if a page is larger than that then plucker has to break it up into multiple pages. This option allows you to be able to move from one part to the next by using the page down item. (Not sure if this is totally correct.)
- Enable soft-hyphens
- What?
- Force default text colors
- What?
- Alignment
- Allows you to force the viewer to align documents in a specified manner.
- As in document - the viewer tries to format the document like it was designed. Centered text should be centered on the screen, paragraphs will normally be left aligned, etc.
- Force left - left aligns all text.
- Force right - right aligns all text.
- Force center - centers all text.
- Force justify - add extra space between words as needed so that all text is left aligned and right aligned at the same time.
Library
The options in this section control things to do with the library of plucker documents saved on your Palm and on any external memory cards (in the /Palm/Ebooks/ directory). These names of each of these documents are all listed in the library screen (the first screen displayed when you go into the plucker viewer), along with information such as the date and size of the documents.
- Update list
- This allows you to control how often you want the document list (library) updated.
- Automatic - always keep the document list up-to-date.
- Manual - only update the document list when user asked.
- Ignore card - always keep document list for internal documents up-to-date, but only update the listing for the external card when asked.
- Category Style
- Controls how you are able to categorize your documents.
- Classic - allows you to categorize your documents in the standard Palm fashion.
- Advanced - allows you to assign one document to multiple categories. It also allows you to display the union or intersection of multiple categories.
- Sort Documents By
- Criteria which you want the document list sorted by. (The options Name, Date, Size, and Type are self explanatory.)
- Sort Order
- Select if you want your documents sorted in ascending or descending order. (The options Ascending and Descending are self explanatory.)
- Use date/time for sort by date
- What does it normally use? Just date?
- Show Type Column
- Toggles whether the type column is shown. (These are the little images shown before the document name.) What are the valid types?
- Show Date Column
- Toggles whether the date column is shown.
- Show Size Column
- Toggles whether the size column is shown.
- Enable Strike-through
- What does this do?
Autoscroll
One of the things the viewer will do is automatically move your page for you. The options in this section control this feature.
- Autoscroll jump
- Specify how much the screen scrolls at each scroll event.
- Autoscroll direction
- Specify the direction you would like your palm to scroll.
- Autoscroll delay
- Specify the time interval between scrolling events.
- Stay on while autoscrolling
- Toggles whether you want the autoscroll to disable the Palm's automatic shut off feature.
Export
Plucker allows you to export part of the document that you are looking at into the memo application.
- Action
- Controls the interface for the export.
- Dialog - you will be shown a copy of what will be exported and given an opportunity to edit the contents before you complete the export or you can also cancel the export.
- Immediate - the export will happen immediately.
- Range
- Controls the amount of text which will be exported.
- In view area - all the text visible to the user will be exported.
- Visible paragraphs - all the text visible plus the remainder of those paragraphs will be exported.
- Link
- Controls how links within the exported text will be handled.
- Bottom - references to the linked documents will be placed at the end of the exported text.
- Inline - references to the linked documents will be placed directly after each link.
- None - no references will be included in the exported text.
Button
PalmOS machines normally have a number of keys below the screen that are used for shortcuts to various applications, for scrolling up and down, and for other situations. The viewer will let you override these keys to do various things in the viewer (when you leave plucker the keys will perform there normal action).
You will see the various keys displayed in the lower have of the screen, when you select one of the keys you will then be able to set what command it will execute with the drop down box of commands. If you select the command 'None' then the key will perform its normal action.
- Activate custom HW keys
- This toggles whether the Plucker viewer should use the shortcut keys.
- Activate custom arrow keys
- This toggles whether the Plucker viewer should use the arrow keys.
Control
This section allows you to configure what will happen when you touch various areas on the screen.
- Mode
- Each of these modes partition your screen in a specific manner.
- Mode 1 - four sections from top to bottom.
- Mode 2 - four sections corresponding to the corners of the screen.
- Mode 3 - this is just a special scrolling mode.
In both mode 1 and 2 you can then assign various commands to correspond to each of the partitions.
Gesture
- Graffiti gestures for navigation
- This toggles whether or not you can use graffiti gestures for navigation.
Lookup
Word lookup always active:

Future Plans and Wishes
I would like if developers and users would use this section. Anyone have a problem with this section being here?
