The Plucker viewer will run on any PalmOS handheld running OS version 2.0 or higher, including those made from Palm, Sony, Handera, Handspring, and others. These include handhelds with black & white screens, color screens and portrait or landscape orientation.

Plucker also runs on PocketPC devices (see Vade Mecum).

A GTK+ version of the Plucker viewer runs on Linux machines, and a version of this has been adapted with the Hildon widget set to run on the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet.

Plucker requires roughly 300kB of free space for the viewer application and an additional 30 kB for the shared library if the ZLib compression should be used (only PalmOS 3.0 and higher can use the zlib compression).

Additional free space is required for your data (i.e. your documents and converted webpages) and at run-time for decompression of any compressed content you create. An alert will display if there is not enough free space on your device. Note that Plucker can use documents stored in Flash memory and on expansion cards.

NOTE: The higher bit depth (more colors) you use for the images the more memory they will require on your Palm device, so it is recommended not to use higher bit depth than necessary. See later on in this manual on how to influence the bit depth Plucker uses.
